The Casa Madre Teodora dos Idosos is a public home for the elderly that was founded in 1990 and supports elders with no family, mostly abandoned, to rescue their dignity and self esteem and give them a better life on their final years.

In 2004 the Hospital Samaritano was accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), becoming the third private general hospital in Brazil to be recognized national and internationally by the most important certificating organ for standards of quality in the health institutions of the world, and re-accredited three times, the most recent one having occurred in 2014. 

The accreditation certifies the efficiency of the processes adopted by the Hospital Samaritano, demonstrating standards of excellence and security for its clients and professionals. 

With over 5,000 certified doctors, as well as a staff of over 2,300 highly qualified employees, Samaritano is a philanthropic institution considered, by the Brazilian Ministry of Health, as one of the Hospital Centres of Excellence in carrying out social projects, researches, as well as in teaching and supporting in the management of public hospitals.
