A dream comes true!

I remember my first day with the Carajás very well. I was just 7 years old and joined as a cub in one of our headquarters (HQs) at St. Paul’s School. Proudly wearing my uniform, full of energy, ready to get to know that magical space that represented Carajás. Little did I know that it would become part of my life until today.

A Scout HQ is much more than just a space where we meet and carry out activities. It is a place where we all feel good, where we can develop and accomplish so many things together as well as "feel at home". It is also the place where we preserve our history, maintain our traditions and pass on our identity from one generation to another.

In 2020, Carajás celebrate 95 years! We have had many headquarters, with St. Paul’s School being our home for nearly 80 years. When the Group grew, we had a second HQ in Santo Amaro, on the Anglican Cathedral campus, where we also stayed for almost 50 years. At both sites, we created so many amazing memories, with so many people and so many families. Today, some are already in their third or fourth generation with us.

With the “sonho da casa própria”, in 2007 we set ourselves a challenge: New Headquarters Project! An HQ with all the freedom and infrastructure that the Carajás deserved. It has been 14 years of hard work, several fundraisers, many committees, countless donations and we are now finally making our dream come true! Needless to say, this is only possible, due to the incredible participation and involvement of everyone, working towards the same goal. I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the Carajás Group, to offer my sincere thanks to ALL OF YOU for being a part of this incredible achievement! #novasedenossasede

Unfortunately, because of this moment that we are living through, it is not possible to be together, to celebrate in style with an Inauguration Party, but it will definitely happen one day! However, I would still like to introduce you to our New HQ, located at SPYC (São Paulo Yacht Club), to whom we are very grateful for welcoming us with open arms and embarking on this exciting journey with us. The start of a special partnership that will certainly generate great things for both organizations in years to come.

As Nahum and Denise, the architects of this great project, said:

“Architecture’s mission is to make dreams come true, transforming and creating reality until it has a meaning for those who dreamed it, translating this dream into space and matter. We all dream together.”

I get emotional when I hear these words, because everything really does start with a dream. . . from the dream comes the idea, which soon turns into a plan, which is gradually carried out until finally it becomes reality. Exactly what has happened with the New Carajás Headquarters, providing the next stage for many future generations to enjoy.

Again, to quote the architects, Carajás HQ had to:

• Create the new without losing the charm of the old.

• Be modern, respecting tradition.

• Be rustic and at the same time careful.

• Practical but playful.

• Scouting and nature at the heart of the project.

We have accompanied the process completely, from the idea and plans to the actual construction. The building team, with the project in hand, arrived at SPYC and started working in October/2019. Every week there was a surprise and something new to admire. The excitement was incredible, and I could hardly believe that this was finally happening. I closed my eyes and a movie played back in my mind and I smiled to myself. How much joy, how many remarkable moments, fun games, friendships and achievements will happen in this space. Unlimited! I feel so proud, and privileged, to be part of all this!

We started the year with so much energy, so many plans, and couldn't wait for the day when we could share and celebrate this great triumph with everyone together in a big party! Then the pandemia came . . . and for an instant it seemed that all of our plans were lost. But, as good Scouts, we put in practice more than ever, the eighth law: "A Scout smiles and whistles under all difficulties”, and as the Brazilian saying goes “fizemos do limão uma limonada”.

The building continued at a slower pace, respecting all safety criteria, but it did not stop. Scouting does not stop and in no time, we were already adapting online activities, even carrying out a Virtual Going-Up Ceremony – a first in 95 years of Carajás! The Chefia (leaders) constantly surpassing themselves, with great creativity and providing incredible activities for our community during this difficult time of quarantine. Everyone’s support, once again, proved to be something very special!

And now, here we are, 9 months after the beginning of the building (a pregnancy, hehehe), and the baby is being born. The HQ is virtually ready, and how beautiful it is! Every little touch, every detail (and there are many), all thought through with great care. We can't wait to be there and enjoy it!
“The stage is set. Now it's time to bring new stories to life, create new dreams and make the most of this wonderful space! Long live the new Carajás HQ!”

As soon as possible, we will all be together, celebrating this special moment in the Carajás history! “Sempre Alerta para Servir”

Um sonho se realiza!

Eu me lembro muito bem da minha primeira atividade no Carajás. Eu tinha apenas 7 anos de idade e ingressei como lobinha em uma de nossas sedes no St.Paul’s School. Uniformizada, cheia de energia, e pronta para conhecer aquele espaço que representava o Carajás . . . e mal podia imaginar que faria parte da minha vida até hoje.

Uma sede é muito mais do que “o espaço” onde nos reunimos e realizamos atividades. Ela é um lugar onde o jovem se sente bem, onde ele pode se desenvolver e realizar muitas coisas, além de se “sentir em casa”. Ela é também o local onde conseguimos contar um pouco da nossa história, transmitir algumas tradições, e compartilhar nossa identidade, de geração em geração, porém em constante movimento.

Esse ano, o Carajás celebra 95 anos! Já tivemos muitas sedes, e o St.Paul’s School foi nossa casa por praticamente 80 anos. Quando o Grupo cresceu, tivemos uma segunda sede em Santo Amaro, no campus da Catedral Anglicana, onde ficamos por quase 50 anos. Em ambas estas sedes realizamos muitas atividades e muitos jovens fizeram parte do Carajás e do Escotismo nestes lugares tão especiais para o Carajás, inclusive algumas famílias estão conosco até hoje, já em sua terceira ou quarta geração.

Com o “sonho da casa própria”, em 2007 nos propusemos um desafio: Projeto Nova Sede! Uma sede com toda a liberdade e infraestrutura que o Carajás merecia. Foram 14 anos de muito trabalho, vários fundraisers, muitas comissões, inúmeras doações e finalmente estamos conseguindo realizar o nosso tão desejado sonho! E obviamente, isso só está sendo possível, devido à incrível participação e união de todos em prol do mesmo ideal. Aproveito para deixar aqui, em nome do Grupo Carajás, os meus sinceros agradecimentos a TODOS por fazer parte dessa trajetória, e conquista, conosco! #novasedenossasede

Infelizmente, no momento que estamos vivendo, não é possível estarmos juntos, comemorando em grande estilo com nossa Festa de Inauguração, mas ele chegará, sem dúvida! Contudo, gostaria de apresentar a vocês a nossa Nova Sede, situada no SPYC (São Paulo Yacht Club), que é realmente “a sede dos sonhos”, onde todos viverão momentos inesquecíveis. Agradecemos imensamente ao SPYC por nos receber de braços abertos e embarcar nessa jornada conosco, firmando essa incrível parceria, que certamente gerará belos frutos para ambas as instituições, que tem total sinergia.

Como disse o Nahum e a Denise, os arquitetos deste grande projeto:

“A arquitetura é a missão de tornar real os sonhos, transformando e criando a realidade até ela ter significado para quem sonhou, traduzindo este sonho em espaço e matéria. Nós arquitetos, sonhamos junto com vocês.”

Até me emociono ao ouvir essas palavras, pois realmente tudo começa com um sonho . . . do sonho vem a ideia, que logo se transforma em planejamento, aos poucos é realizada a execução e enfim se torna realidade . . . transmitindo emoções e muita alegria - e foi exatamente isso que aconteceu com a Nova Sede Carajás! E temos certeza que essa Nossa Sede será palco para muitas gerações futuras curtirem ao máximo esse lugar e tudo que ele oferece e representa!

Novamente, parafraseando os arquitetos, Nossa Sede seguiu as seguintes premissas:

• Criar o novo sem perder o charme do velho.

• Ser moderno, respeitando o tradicional.

• Ser rústico e ao mesmo tempo cuidadoso.

• Prático e ao mesmo tempo lúdico.

• O escotismo e a natureza são o cerne do projeto. 

Acompanhamos o processo por completo, desde a ideia, passando por todo o projeto e a obra propriamente dita é claro, que iniciou em outubro/2019. Toda a equipe, com plantas em mãos e muito mais, chegaram ao SPYC e começaram os trabalhos . . . e a cada semana uma novidade. A emoção era grande e mal podia acreditar que isso realmente, finalmente, estava acontecendo. Fechava meus olhos e um filme passava pela minha cabeça e eu sorria sozinha. Quantas alegrias, momentos marcantes, brincadeiras divertidas, pessoas reunidas e realizações acontecerão neste espaço . . . infinitas! Que orgulho, e privilégio, fazer parte disso!

Começamos o ano com muita energia e milhões de planos, e mal podíamos esperar o dia em que poderíamos compartilhar e comemorar essa grande vitória, com todos juntos em uma grande festa! E foi então que chegou à pandemia . . . e por um instante parecia que todos os nossos planos tinham ido por água abaixo. Mas, como bons escoteiros, lembramos e praticamos a oitava lei: “O Escoteiro é alegre e sorri nas dificuldades”, e como diz o ditado “fizemos do limão uma limonada”.

A obra continuou, em um ritmo mais lento, respeitando todos os critérios de segurança, mas não parou. Scouting não para e num piscar de olhos já estávamos adaptados para atividades online, realizando até mesmo um Going-Up Virtual – coisa inédita nos 95 anos do Carajás! A Chefia se superando a todo momento, com uma baita criatividade e oferecendo atividades incríveis aos jovens durante este momento difícil de quarentena. A união de todos, mais uma vez, provou ser algo muito especial!

E agora, aqui estamos, 9 meses após o início da obra (uma gestação, rsrsrs), e o bebê está nascendo . . . a sede está praticamente pronta, e como está linda! Cada toque, cada detalhe . . . e são muitos, todos pensados com muito carinho. Não vemos a hora de estar lá e poder usufruir, e desfrutar, da Nossa Sede e de todo seu entorno!

“O palco está feito. Agora é hora de os personagens darem vida a novas histórias. Criarem novos sonhos e viverem o espaço real! Longa vida a nova sede do Carajás!”

Assim que possível estaremos todos reunidos comemorando juntos mais esse momento na história do Carajás! “Sempre Alerta para Servir”
