Dear Readers,

We hope that you and your family are well and healthy in spite of the throes of this pandemic that has devastated us for several months.

Like everyone else, we too have been affected.  And we've had an aggravating factor: Fundação Britânica de Beneficência (FBB), the NGO that we administrate, is focused on projects for the elderly, which is one of the main risk groups for coronavirus.

But we have not allowed this to get us down and have modified our operations in order to continue fulfilling our mission, which is to preserve the dignity and promote the welfare of the elderly that are in a vulnerable situation whose autonomy and links of protection and care have compromised over time, reciprocating, in this manner, to those who have done so much for us. We give more details about all we have done over the past months in the FBB articles in this same magazine.

The other organisations that comprise the new Spotlight Editorial Council also had their challenges to adapt to these new times, and wrote articles about it.

Speaking of the new Editorial Council, it represents a major change in the management model of this magazine, which begins a new phase. To understand all the changes we have made, we suggest that you read the article in our section "Under the Spotlight". This section will bring the main story of each issue, and this time it deals with Spotlight itself.

We did our best to keep this new version of the magazine true to its history and, at the same time, reflect the new times and our new goals. We hope you enjoy reading it and that it represents a breath of lightness and hope in the midst of the pandemic that has affected us.

Our communication channels are open. Feel free to send us your questions, comments and suggestions. We want the magazine to improve with each issue and for Spotlight to continue its tradition for many more decades.

The British Society has a dedicated team of welfare professionals who  focus on assisting community members  in their own homes as well as supporting members who reside in  residential  homes.  An important change relating to the care of our elderly members took place during  March, when  the residents who lived at the Lar Elite  moved  to a new home, Cora Residential in Campo Belo. Details of this change  are covered in the article by Alison Steel on page 4.

The old adage that life only begins in Brazil after Carnival is probably true, but at least this year, we get an earlier start. Many of you have complained that you are receiving Spotlight very late, and in too many cases not at all. We are experiencing very serious problems with the postal services and must apologise to our readers.
